The Boston Bruins' 2020-21 schedule was released on Wednesday after the NHL instituted a new divisional realignment due to COVID-19 concerns.
The Bruins will be part of a new East Division, along with the Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals. The Bruins will play a 56-game regular-season schedule, facing each team in their division eight times.
The top four teams from each division will qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs, and the first two rounds will feature intra-divisional play. Once a single team advances from each division, the four qualifying teams will be re-seeded for the final two rounds to determine a Stanley Cup champion.
The realignment means that this will be first season (excluding the lockout season of 2004-05) in franchise history that the Bruins will not play a regular-season game against the Canadiens. And excluding the lockout-shortened 1994-95 season when Toronto played in the Western Conference, this will also be the first season in team history that the Bruins will not play any regular-season games against the Maple Leafs.
