How To Read the Golf Futures Odds Market. The 'Odds to Win' wager in golf is very simple to understand. Put simply, you just need to select the golfer that will capture the victory. Select any of the golfers in the tournament and your payout for the bet will depend on the odds given at the time of the wager.

  1. This article is part of our Betting on Golf series. The last stop in the West Coast swing is the Genesis Invitational at notorious Riviera Country Club. Following an event in which not a single top-10 player in the Official World Golf Ranking took the course, this week's field is stacked, with eight of the top 10 set to tee it up.

Genesis Golf Tournament 2020 Odds

The 2020 Genesis Invitational hosts a field of 120 golfers this week in Pacific Palisades Calif. Nine of the top-10 golfers from the Official World Golf Ranking are among them, making this the top PGA Tour event of the season thus far. Below, we’ll analyze the golf betting odds, while making our picks to win the 2020 Genesis Invitational.

The key stats for the 7,322-yard, par-71 Riviera Country Club are:

Brooks Koepka (+2000)

There isn’t likely to be anyone in the field this week more motivated than Koepka, who gave up the No. 1 spot in the OWGR to Rory McIlroy Monday morning. With the bump in the rankings, Koepka’s outright odds to win a tournament plummeted. By contrast, Koepka is +900 to win the Masters, +1000 to win the Open Championship, +800 for the US Open and +800 for the PGA Championship.

While he missed the cut in 2017 (his only appearance in the last five years), this is nearly a major-caliber field. Koepka remains second in the OWGR but he’s seventh by the odds this week.

Adam Scott (+3000)

Scott ranks third in this field in Strokes Gained at Riviera among those with a minimum of 10 rounds played on the course. Ranked 14th in the world, he’s coming off a win at the Australian PGA Championship in late December and is well rested. He looks to become the third Aussie to win on the PGA Tour in 2020 behind Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith.

Genesis Invitational – Tier 2

Collin Morikawa (+4500)

Championship

Morikawa has never participated in this event, but he offers adequate value after routinely being priced among the favorites in the weaker early-season events. He still hasn’t missed a cut as a professional, and he ranks 18th by the overall stat model as a great ball striker.

Kevin Na (+6600)

Na tied for 33rd last year following a co-runner-up finish in 2018 and a T-4 in 2017. He rebounded from a missed cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open to tie for 14th last week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He’s one of the best in the elite field in SG: Around the Green.

Genesis Invitational – Longshots

Jason Kokrak (+10000)

Though he lacks the winning pedigree of many of those in the field, Kokrak has done well at Riviera. He has made the cut each of the last five years at this event and was a co-runner-up in 2016. He ranks sixth in the field in total strokes gained over that those five appearances.

Francesco Molinari (+12500)

Yes, this is the same Francesco Molinari as the 2018 Open Champion. He enters the week ranked 24th by the OWGR, but he was inside the top 10 as recently as September. He’s coming off missed cuts at the Farmers Insurance Open and The American Express, but these odds are laughable for one of the best iron players in the world.

In many ways, the entirety of the 2021 golf season has been leading into this week at Riviera Country Club. The best event on the PGA Tour's west coast swing also comes at possibly its best golf course with a field fit for a major championship. Add it all up, and this weekend's Genesis Invitational is must-see TV ahead of the Florida swing with the Masters just over the horizon.

Let's take a closer look at this week's contest, with odds and prop bets provided via William Hill Sportsbook.

Event information

What: Genesis Invitational

When: Feb. 18-21

Where: Riviera Country Club -- Pacific Palisades, California

Three things to know

1. Hey, Mr. DJ: Dustin Johnson's numbers are comical right now, and we might be underrating the absolute tear he's currently on. Since Aug. 1 of last year, only Johnson, Xander Schauffele, Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas are averaging over 2.0 strokes gained per round. Schauffele is at 2.71 per round. Johnson is at 3.62. He's been about twice as good as No. 5 on that list, Tony Finau, who is at 1.87 strokes gained per round. Additionally, 70% of his starts have been top-five finishes, and he's the leader in strokes gained at this course over the last 10 years (by another wide margin).

2. Bryson noise: You could pick any number of things -- including the course itself -- as the second-biggest storyline this week, but I'm going with Bryson DeChambeau. He finished in the top 10 here last year -- pre-weight gain -- but has been incredibly quiet since winning the U.S. Open in September. He's played just four times with two top 10s and no real challenges to win. He's always (always!) fascinating, but even more so this week at a classic like Riviera.

3. Three for Spieth: Jordan Spieth said recently that he was not in a good head space following the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines three weeks ago. Then he ripped off two top-five finishes in a row and is headed to a course he said was 'arguably my favorite golf course in the world.' As macho as the last two performances have been, if he does it this week in this field at this course, we can definitively say that Spieth is back and ready for Augusta National.

Want the sharpest DFS advice, picks ands missing is Tiger Woods, who will be hosting instead of playing. In all, 16 of the top 25 players in the Official World Golf Rankings will be in attendance, and the strength of field this week (628) is akin to a playoff event and very nearly to a major championship. Throw in the fact that world No. 1 (D.J.) is coming off a win in his last start and Adam Scott won here last year over Rory, Bryson and D.J., and you can see why excitement is high. Grade: A+

Genesis Invitational picks

Winner (30-1): Hovland's run has been mega quiet. Stealthy, even. He has four top-six finishes in his last five starts -- including a win at the Mayakoba Golf Classic at the end of 2020 -- and is cruising from tee to green right now (only D.J., Joaquin Niemann and Rory have been better). I'm not in love with the Riviera fit for him nor the idea of winning in his first start there, but I do very much love the way he's playing golf right now.
Top 10 (-162): D.J.'s odds to top 10 this week are shorter than Patrick Cantlay's to top 10 last week in what was a not very good field at Pebble Beach. That's how automatic Johnson is right now, even with the rest of the best in the world prominently involved. It's not difficult to envision him swiping multiple wins in a row ahead of his Masters title defense in April.
Sleeper (40-1): A long number for somebody who did not finish outside the top two spots at either Hawaii tournament. Niemann is sandwiched between Johnson and McIlroy of players in this field who have been the best from tee to green over the last three months. Pretty good company.
